Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is a modern, research-intensive public university located in the city of Magdeburg, in the German state of Saxony‑Anhalt. Established in 1993 through the merger of three predecessor institutions (a technical university, a teachers’ college, and a medical academy), OVGU is among Germany’s youngest universities.

OVGU currently serves around 13,000 students across nine faculties, spanning the natural sciences, engineering, medicine, economics, humanities, and education. Wikipedia. Its research is inter‑ and multidisciplinary, with particular strength in areas like neurosciences, biosystems technology, disease prevention, digital engineering, automotive research, and renewable energies.

Named after Otto von Guericke, the renowned 17th‑century physicist, inventor, and former mayor of Magdeburg known for his experiments demonstrating air pressure and vacuum, the university seeks to embody his spirit of innovation and empirical inquiry. OVGU is notably international: it maintains numerous global partnerships, encourages exchange of students and researchers, and supports a diverse academic community. unimagdeburg
